Intr-un fel surprinzator, engine-ul Half Life 1 a fost imbunatatit intr-un final de Valve, lansarea oficiala avand loc azi noapte. In mare cam toate jocurile care-l folosesc sunt afectate, cum ar fi Counter Strike 1.6, Condition Zero sau Team Fortress Clasic. Update-uri au mai fost si pana acum, in special pe parte de client, insa de aceasta data modificarile sunt la o prima vedere destul de majore. Sau ar trebui sa fie majore, tinand cont ca Valve a schimbat cu aceasta ocazie protocolul folosit pentru comunicarea intre client si server, acum acesta avand versiunea 48, fata de versiunea 47 care a fost folosita timp de cativa ani buni.
Acesta noua versiune a engine-ului este obligatorie si pentru servere, altfel mesajul de eroare pe care-l primesc la conectare clientii pentru care jocul a fost actualizat automat de aplicatia Steam fiind de genul:
The server is using an older protocol ( 47 ) than your client ( 48 ). If you believe this server is outdated, you can contact the server administrator at *******
Pentru jucatorii de Counter Strike (CS 1.6) din Romania, aceasta schimbare creaza momentan o prapastie clara intre No Steam si Steam. Cei care folosesc Steam nu se vor mai putea conecta la servere care nu folosesc ultimul engine, in timp ce cei care nu au Steam nu se mai pot conecta la anumite servere Steam, eroarea fiind opusul celei descrisa mai sus:

Bug Fixes
* Removed the need to manually re-login and re-authenticate to Steam while in game.
* Fixed a crash on startup when running windowed with a non-standard desktop resolution.
* Removed the display of saytext (in-game chat text) from players whom you've blocked in Steam friends.
* Locked down several engine cvars to prevent malicious script exploits.
* Enforced file consistency on several sprites in Counter-Strike.
* Removed "ex_extrapmax" cvar (no longer needed).
Server
* Added "-noaff" command-line option to disable setting of thread affinity.
* Added "bannedcfg" cvar so admins can choose which file is written to by the "writeid" command.
